PLEASE READ! Is What You Want, What You Need?

Atlanta Lab Rescue is thankful we continue to receive a record number of applications during this unexpected “stay at home” time. As of now, we continue to place dogs and complete adoptions. However, before applying to adopt a dog, we would ask that you seriously consider your WANTS versus your NEEDS. We do our best to educate adopters, especially when it comes to young dogs that need LOTS of time and training. We must ensure that people are not just considering adoption because they are at home, have extra time, and want the companionship of a dog. The reality is, we will all be getting back to a normal routine in the coming months and then what?

PLEASE consider what your schedule will look like once normalcy returns before you apply, and make certain that you will still be able to meet the demands of your new dog.

We are rescuing dogs daily! They come in all sizes, shapes and ages. Do yourself a favor and really consider what you NEED as opposed to what you think you WANT!

I am a 76 year old stay at home retiree. Have almost always had a dog as a companion Lost my rescued/adopted 12 year old Nellie about 14 months ago and now believe I am ready to adopt a new best friend. I also adopt and love my seven wonderful indoor/outdoor cats (6 months to 15 years – all rescues). My new doggie needs to be used to sharing his home with cats and be totally gentle. I have a large wooded back yard and have had complete success with my Radio Invisible Fence. My new doggie will also be indoor/outdoor and will sleep in my bedroom with all of my kitties
    I am looking for a mature boy – say 5 – 9 years old.

Must one be in the Atlanta area to adopt? Sam really caught my eye! My daughter follows you and posted him this morning. He reminds me of her sweet boy. We live at the beach in the FL panhandle, but would love to apply to adopt. My husband and I are retired, but still have a teenager at home, and have lots of time to spend with a dog.

Hello and thank you for your inquiry. We will consider adopting adult dogs out of state. That said, there are additional requirements and steps to go through. We do not provide transport and will still require another rescue group to provide a home check for us or have a letter from your vet on any dogs you’ve had in the past. So, not impossible but a bit more challenging. We do not adopt puppies out of state at all. If you feel you’d like to be considered, you are welcome to complete an application, pay the app fee, then speak to a coordinator. I will say we have received many apps for Sam already. That said, we have a lot of great dogs.
      Thank you again.
