Jojo
Jojo is 2-3 years old adorable female that is great with kids and other dogs. She was adopted a couple of years ago and is getting returned. This is why they can no longer keep her:
âI am regretfully writing to you to inform you that we can no longer care for our sweet rescue lab. When we adopted her from you I was a stay at home mom with time to spend with her. Unfortunately circumstances have changed and now I am working full time. When we arrive home it is homework time and bedtime and there is not a lot of time left for her. She is sweet and loving.â
Before passing judgement, itâs important to note that this is the #1 reason BY FAR that dogs get returned to us. Working parents with even one child, and certainly 2 or more, have homework and kids activities after work/school and the weekends are spent at ALL DAY sports tournaments and birthday parties. If parents are truly honest with themselves, they would admit that they already have a very full schedule and there is no time for more responsibility⦠and a dog is a BIG responsibility!
Few people think it through. They see other families with dogs and insist they can do it and they get a dog and it ends up in a crate or the yard (or returned to the rescue of shelter) because they are busy or never home.
This family admits they can no longer give Jojo the life she had before and they want whatâs best for her. We have the statistics (A LOT of them) to show that their situation rarely works and as the advocate for the dog, we are going to make sure that anyone who adopts a dog from ALR considers the amount of time and effort a dog takes. Dogs are not disposable and NOT for everyone and thatâs OK.
